Water Based Printmaking
Speedball - Akua Intaglio Inks
Akua Intaglio Ink was designed for Intaglio Printing but can also be applied with a brayer for relief printing, monotype, and collagraphs. It will print on plates made of plastic, wood, linoleum or metal. PLEASE NOTE : Akua Inks contain no driers, so they have a long working time for monotype or wiping the plate. They never harden or dry in the jar or on the ink slab. Made from soy and lightfast pigments, Akua Intaglio Inks have a thick consistency with minimal water content. They clean up easily using a dry rag followed by soapy water. Once the print is dry, Akua Intaglio inks are permanent, however they can be re-soaked immediately if care is taken, so you can choose to print on damp or dry paper for different techniques. Plates with greater tonal value, deeply bitten or raised surfaces require dampened paper. It may not be necessary to dampen paper for shallow bitten or high contrast images. Monotypes print best on dry smooth paper. SEE Below for mediums & Instructional DVDs.

Akua Intaglio Transparent Base increases transparency when added to Akua Intaglio ink. It also transforms Akua Kolor Ink into intaglio ink or relief ink.
Akua Intaglio Modifier Mag Mix thickens & adds more body to the ink. Use for relief and intaglio plates that require a stiffer ink as well as letterpress & viscosity printing. Cleans up with soapy water.
Akua Intaglio Release Agent is required to release brushwork from plate to paper when hand printing monotypes with the Akua Pin Press - SEE Plates & Presses. It is used for making ghost prints. A ghost print is the second print from a monotype plate that has been inked only one time giving a lighter version of the image. By rolling Release Agent over the plate, it helps to transfer the remaining ink off the plate & onto another sheet of paper. Release Agent looks white in the jar but rolls up clear and colourless. Cleans up with liquid dish washing detergent.
