SEE Matisse Background Paints & Art Spectrum Colourfix Primer for two brands of coloured primers which have a velvety matt finish. They can be used as a base colour under your normal painting style or as a contrast to glossy paint. They are really good for underpainting murals and are suitable for interior & exterior artwork.

Matisse - Structure Formula 

Matisse Paints  - Are 100% Australian made & owned. Lightfastness Ratings - There are two lightfastness scales - the ASTM and the BWS. The ASTM range is from ASTM 1 being excellent lightfastness to ASTM 5 which is fugitive. The BWS scale ranges from BWS 8 being excellent to BWS1 being fugitive. All matisse paints have an ASTM of 1 - 2 and a BWS of 6 - 8. Some of the metallic colours have not been tested and are shown as NT on their labels. This quality of pigment means that all Matisse paints are ideal for doing large exterior murals that are subject to weather. Artist's can be confident of creating artworks that will last without fading or yellowing. 

Tip from Debra - I have used Matisse Structure since 1978 & I find that one tube of Structure is equal to three tubes of most brands because of the density of the pigment, which means they last much longer. After many years of testing brands, the only paints I have found to be as good as Structure are Liquitex & Winsor & Newton.

Matisse Structure Formula is a buttery, heavy-bodied formula packed with pigment. It is ideal for textural impasto effects and also watercolour effects when thinned. The colours are permanent and flexible.
